Artist Biography
Kris Mobley is a contemporary figurative artist working primarily in graphite. His work recalls nineteenth-century heirloom portraiture through its treatment of toy and comic book subjects, reframing familiar imagery through themes of memory and iconography. Drawing from a background in illustration, he translates popular culture into a symbolic visual language within a fine art context.
His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and the Swope Art Museum, as well as regional venues such as the Harrison Center for the Arts and collaborative exhibitions at Butler University / Christian Theological Seminary. Recognition includes Best of Show at the Indianapolis Art Center Annual Student Exhibition.
He holds a B.A. in Art History with Highest Distinction from the Herron School of Art and Design and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Native American Art History at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
