Artist Biography

Kris Mobley is a contemporary figurative artist working primarily in graphite drawing. His work recalls nineteenth-century heirloom portraiture even as it engages popular culture imagery, reframing familiar themes and characters through archetypes, memory, and shared human experience.

Drawing from a background in illustration and character design, he translates popular culture imagery into fine art contexts, where it functions as symbolic and figurative language rather than illustration in a commercial sense.

His work has been exhibited at institutions including the Fort Wayne Museum of Art and the Swope Art Museum, as well as regional venues such as the Harrison Center for the Arts and collaborative exhibitions at Butler University / Christian Theological Seminary. Recognition includes Best of Show at the Indianapolis Art Center Annual Student Exhibition.

He holds a B.A. in Art History with Highest Distinction from the Herron School of Art and Design and is currently pursuing a Certificate in Native American Art History at the Institute of American Indian Arts.
