Of all his work through the 1970s, Jack Kirby was most proud of Mister Miracle. Central to that achievement was Big Barda, a physically formidable "Female Fury" introduced in issue 4 who eventually became the hero's wife and partner. While Barda's powerful spirit was inspired by Kirby's own wife, the artist drew her physical appearance from singer/actress Lanie Kazan, who is depicted with her heroic half in this portrait.
